The Western Asian Junior Chess Championships will take place in Sri Lanka
From November 28th to December 6th, 2023, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Western Asian Junior & Girls Chess Championships 2023 will be held. The event is organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE
The championship is open to chess players under the age of 20, before January 1st 2023, from Western Asian Chess Federations affiliated to the Asian Chess Federation. Each country may register one official player and any number of additional players to participate in Under 20 years in both Boys and Girls.
The competition will take place in three categories: Standard Chess, Rapid, and Blitz. The tournament will be played according to the Rules of Play of FIDE. The Championships will be played according to the Swiss System of 9 rounds or round robin for 10 players. The time control for each Standard Chess game is 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. The time control for Rapid Chess is 15 minutes plus 10 second increment per move from move 1. The time control for Blitz Chess is 3 minutes plus 2 second increment per move from move 1.
